Our Great Universe And Galaxies

Our Universe is really filled with mysteries since it is made of billions of stars, solar systems and galaxies. In astronomy it is defined as a closed system includes all forms of energies and physical bodies. The astronomers say Universe was formed by a big bang that occurred about 13.7 billion years ago. Big Bang theory says that every thing existing in this Universe were concentrated at one point with an infinitive density and after the big bang our  Universe started to expand till this minute.

There are millions of galaxies in our Universe. Each galaxy contains billions of stars and solar systems that are bound to each other due to gravitational force. The galaxies are in four different shapes - spiral, elliptical, lenticular and irregular. In all these types of galaxies the young stars exist on the outer part and whereas the older ones are in center. Let us see here some galaxies that are known to man and also interesting facts.

Milky Way

This is a spiral shaped galaxy where our solar system exists. It contains more than 200 billion stars and has a diameter of 1 lac light years. All the stars including our solar system revolving around its center and it'll take more than 200 millions years to complete a revolution.

The Sagittarius Dwarf

This is lying at about 70,000 light years away from our solar system and has an elliptical shape. When  it is compared with our galaxy, it is relatively small with a diameter of 10000 light years.

The Large Magellanic Cloud

This is a irregular galaxy and lies at about 2 lacs light years away from our solar system. It's said that this is the satellite of Milky Way galaxy and has a diameter of 39000 light years.

Abell 2029

The largest galaxy in our Universe, Abell 2029 has a great diameter of about 6 million light years. In fact this is made of many thousands of galaxies and over one hundred trillion stars. It lies at about 1.07 million light years away from our solar system.

Andromeda Galaxy

This is a spiral galaxy lying at about 2.3 millions light years from our home planet. It has about 300 billion stars and the light has to travel for the period of 1.8 million years from its one end to another end.

Abell 135 IR 1916

This is the farthest galaxy known to man. It's incredibly lying at about 13.2 billion light years away from our solar system. The French and Swiss astronomers of European Southern observatory first discovered it in the year 2004
