Facts About Moon

The Moon is only one natural satellite of our home planet earth. The average distance between earth and moon is 380,000 Km. It has only 25% of earth's volume and a low mean density of 3.34 gm/cc. It's true that 81 moons will be required to equal the mass of our earth.  Moon is so light because of its relatively small iron core and 24% composition of Alumina. Moon is always showing its one side (59% of its surface) towards earth and the other side is always remaining hidden.  It is said that the hidden side of Moon is containing more number of craters than visible one has. It is the fifth largest moon in the solar system. The light will take 1.26 seconds to travel distance between earth and the moon.

The only human remains in the moon are those of American geologist Eugene Shoemaker who had been researching on planetary collisions. The ashes of the scientist were carried aboard NASA's Lunar Prospector spacecraft and that was shed into a crater of the Moon on 31st July,1999. The south pole of the hidden side of the Moon contains the largest crater of the solar system which has a diameter of 2,100 Km and the depth of 12 Km.

We may everyone that this is only one natural satellite which was stepped by humans. So far 12 persons have been walked here. It is proved that no air in the atmosphere of Moon, so, the sound can not travel over it and be heard.  Even in day time we can not see the blue sky as we do in our earth. Though it looks cool, no one can bear with its surface temperature as the mercury touches 123 degree Celsius during day time and night times would be so cold with minus 170 degree Celsius. The highest point in the Moon is 10,786 m which is higher than Mount Everest.
