Halwas are the traditional mouthwatering sweets of India. In this article you can learn methods for preparing variety of Halwas.
Tirunelveli Halwa
Ingredients
Wheat Rava - 500 gm
Sugar - 1.5 kg
Ghee - 500 gm
Hot Water - 1.5 liter
Cashew Nuts (roasted) - 50 gm
Cardamom Powder - Reqd. Amount
Milk - 25 ml
Kesari Powder - 1 tsp
Soak wheat rava in pure water for about 6 hours and grind it well to extract milk by adding hot water. You need to add hot water for several times till you get last milk from the ground rava.
The milk you have prepared should be kept aside for at least 7 to 8 hours and then take only the thick milk settled down. Mix sugar and water in a pan and place it on a stove flame. Add 4 tsp milk to the sugar and water mixture and stir constantly until the sugar syrup reaches string consistency. Now gently add kesari powder to the boiled mixture and mix well. Take wheat rava milk now and add it to the boiling mixture. Add a cup of hot water and some ghee to the milk once it gets thick consistency and repeat it for several times till you get halwa consistency. Add some cashew nuts and cardamom powder after switching off the stove flame. Now Halwa is ready for serving!
Maida Halwa
Ingredients
Maida - 500 gm
Sugar - 700 gm
Kesari Powder - 1 tsp
Ghee - 100 gm
Cardamom Powder - tsp
Cashew Nuts (roasted) - 50 gm
Mix maida with 3 or 4 cups of pure water in a bowl and stir well. After 3 hours take only the thick milk lying below. Add maida milk, sugar and kesari powder in a pan and place it on fire. Stir the boiling mixture slowly adding ghee. Switch off the stove flame after getting halwa consistency. Now you can add roasted cashew nuts and cardamom powder to the halwa.
Carrot Halwa
Ingredients
Grated Fresh Carrot - 500 gm
Milk - 700 ml
Sugar - 300 gm
Cardamom Powder - 0.5 tsp
Kesari Powder - A Pinch
Ghee - 15 to 20 ml
Mix grated carrot and milk in a pan and place it on fire. Stir well when it gets thick. Now add sugar and keep stirring. Reduce the flame to add ghee, cardamom powder and a pinch of kesari powder to the carrot,sugar and milk mixture. Now the hot carrot halwa is ready to taste.
Pineapple Halwa
Ingredients
Chopped Pineapple - 1
Sugar - 0.5 cup
Condensed Milk - 15 ml
Ghee - 15 ml
Cashew Nuts (roasted) - 0.5 cup
Add 10 ml ghee in a pan with chopped pineapple and heat in sim for about 10 minutes. Add sugar and mash the chopped fruits until there are no pieces of pineapple. When it gets thick add condensed milk and t tsp ghee and stir well. Remove the pan from fire and mix roasted cashew nuts. Now Pineapple halwa is ready.
Milk Halwa
Ingredients
Milk - 1 liter
Sugar - 75 gm
Lemon - 1 fruit
Maida - 30 gm
Cardamom Powder - 2 Pinches
Ghee - 15 ml
Take 750 ml of milk in a pan to boil. Add lemon juice to the boiled milk and collect paneer by using a thin cloth. Take 250 ml milk in another pan and heat till it get condensed to three fourth of its consistency. Now start adding maida, paneer, sugar, ghee and stir well. After removing from flame add cardamom powder to the mixture. Milk Halwa is now ready to serve!
